Yesterday's launch of Portage la Prairie's 11th Habitat For Humanity build had some mixed emotions.

One of Habitat's long time supporters presented a cheque for $22,500, but it's the last time it'll happen.

The money's from the proceeds of Homes For The Holidays, and Co-chair Dana Geisel explains they've run into some struggles.

"It's harder and harder to find homes," she says, "Our ticket sales have been declining significantly over the past several years, and so we decided we wanted to out on a high, and be able to give a significant donation this year, and then we'll see what happens in the future to support the wonderful work that Habitat For Humanity does in Portage."

Geisel says this year's amount is their largest ever.

"That's partially because we usually hold money in reserve to put on next year's tour," she says, "So this year have put together all of the money that we have to donate to this build here today."

Geisel says they're extremely grateful for the community's support over the last 14 years.

"Every year has been a success," she says, "We've had support from ticket buyers, from home owners, from business people in our community, in terms of giving their donations of money and time, our decorators. So we just have lots of warm feelings for all the support we've had over the last 14 years."
