There's big news today surrounding the Portage Terriers hockey club.

The Terriers are pleased to announce the hiring of a new head coach for their 40th Anniversary season in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League. After 5 years as Assistant Coach, Blake Spiller will take over the head coaching duties, following the resignation of Don MacGillivray, who has spent the past 8 seasons (1998-2006) behind the Portage bench and the last 6 years as Head Coach and General Manager.

MacGillivray, has accepted the position of Head Coach with the University of Manitoba Bisons in his hometown of Winnipeg.
MacGillivray compiled a Regular Season Record Of 293 Wins, 166 Losses, and 48 Ties for a winning percentage of .638 with the Terriers.

In the playoffs, MacGillivray guided Portage to consecutive division titles in 2004 and 2005. The Terriers won the 2005 MJHL Championship, along with the Anavet Cup.

Spiller has past coaching experience with Portage Minor Hockey, the Central Plains Capitals of the Manitoba "AAA" Midget Hockey League, and is a former Terrier player who captained the team in the 1982-1983 season.
