The Municipality of North Norfolk is increasing their funding toward the MacGregor-Austin Senior Support Program. Mayor Neil Christoffersen says the program is great for the municipality, and outlines some of the things it does.

"The MacGregor-Austin Senior Support Program is a tremendous program that's run in the municipality. It provides a meal program, transportation for seniors, short term equipment loans like walkers and wheelchairs, a lifeline emergency response system program, and a number of other programs. There's a pen-pal program with the seniors and the school students."

He outlines the amount the funding will increase and why.

"The municipality was contributing $3,000 a year to this program, and now it's up to $8,000. We believe that it's a really valuable program and also it's key to keeping seniors in the area."

Christoffersen says the municipality asked the province for additional funding but the request was denied.

"We were after the province to increase their funding level as well. We did get a response to that via letter to say that they had no intention of increasing their funding at this time for the program, so the funding increases are from the municipal budget."
