Nutri-Pea in Portage la Prairie is reporting more cases of COVID-19 within its facility.

A statement released on Dec. 1. says 11 staff members have tested positive for COVID-19. There were five cases identified on Nov. 28.

The plant was shut down for two days and thorough disinfection took place by an external cleaning company. A review of 1st and 2nd-degree contacts was initiated and recently wrapped up.

Nutri-Pea has been taking proactive measures such as touchless daily temperature checks, building modifications have been made to provide additional space to allow for social distancing, and a remote work policy is in place for all employees that can work from home.

The plant, which employs 70 workers, felt it was safe to have the pant semi-operational this week after contact tracing and cleaning took place. The plant is slated to be fully operational by Dec. 7.
