If you live near Portage Collegiate you may have encountered students or visitors of the school partially blocking your driveway.

PCI Principal Gregg Waldvogel says it hasn't been as much of an issue as in previous years, but if there is a concern from neighbours, the school tries to deal with it as best they can.

"Generally what we'll do is page to the office the person by license plate number and ask them to move their vehicle," says Waldvogel. "We do ask the students to take advantage of the student parking lot and avoid parking on the street, just because of those issues and not blocking crosswalks and certain things."

Waldvogel says he recognizes the neighbour's frustration when the issue arises and says if the school can't remedy the problem, there are other precautions to take.

"We also have an RCMP officer on site who can also write tickets in those situations," Waldvogel says. "In the worst case some neighbours have even phoned [a tow truck] just because they want to get it towed if it's blocking their driveway. If you call a person to the office and they don't respond to the license plate number on our end, there's not much we can do about that."

Waldvogel notes the school tries to be proactive and work with the neighbours as best as possible.
