Portage Collegiate Institute held their annual awards ceremony this afternoon. Many of the students in attendance were rewarded for their efforts during the school year. One student who won a number of awards, Tee-Tee Appah, says one of the highlights for her was to reunite with her classmates and see them get rewarded for their efforts.

"I'd say seeing all of my graduating classmates," says Appah. "It's very exciting to see such a big graduating class, I know in the past they have been smaller. But it was very good to see people get awards and feel congratulated for the work they've done throughout their high school careers."

Principal Gregg Waldvogel says PCI enjoys getting the opportunity to recognize students' scholastic and community achievements. He also notes the school loves having the opportunity to support the students financially.

"I think it rewards our students that have worked very hard over, not just their high school career, but their whole school career," Waldvogel says. "It shows the value of education, and I think those students that are moving on to higher institutions or into the trades, this certainly gives them a kickstart in terms of funding."
