Now that spring is here, most are starting to think about what they should be planting in their garden, and the Portage la Prairie Community Revitalization Corporation (PCRC) is ensuring you are prepared.

Lorna Knight, the Community Engagement Coordinator with the PCRC, says they already had one Gardening Workshop and have two more installments.

"Our very first one was small space gardening, which had over about 45 participants that attended. It was extremely informational. I learned all sorts of things about gardening that I didn't know. Previous to that, a whole bunch of things that I've clearly been doing wrong for years."

She does mention that they created these workshops for many reasons.

"We all like having green things in our personal spaces, and a lot of it has come from food security as the cost of food increases. It's nice to be able to know that some of these things we can grow in our very own backyards or on our patios or in our windowsills, and so being able to offer some different programs like this to let everyone know what is out there and what they can and cannot do and what works and what doesn't work."

Knight says that you don't need any experience to attend these workshops.

"It is a great refresher whether you're brand new to gardening and you need some basic tools and tips to get started, or whether you're experienced in gardening, and you just need to have more information on specific in-depth things or trying to make the workshops kind of work for everyone regardless of what your gardening experience has been so far. "

She notes that the workshops are free of cost, and all that's needed is to pre-register.
