The Portage Phillies are holding a free day of fastpitch training in the coming weeks.

Phillies' Rob Olson says the training day will be held on September 16th at 2 p.m. at Rotary Republic Park. It's a free event for boys and girls ages 10-13 to attend.

"I've got some really good pitching instructors coming out," says Olson. "I've got Greg Bouchard from Softball Manitoba, he's the master pitching clinic organizer there. I've also got Brady Woods and Tanner Waldvogel coming to help out too. Other guys helping out with fielding too like Jay Dewis, myself, and hopefully, a few other guys from the team."

Olson says they want to try and get a few more kids involved in the sport and this could be a great way to peak some interest.

"The numbers are not very good, especially for boys," he adds. "There are no teams in Manitoba that are in the ages of 10-14 years old that I know of. So we'd like to try and get some going if we can."

Olson invites anyone interested in signing up for the day to contact him on his cell phone at 871-5522.
