The Portage Pirates are 1-1 at the Western Canadian Baseball Championship in Kamloops B.C.

Yesterday, in their first game of the tournament, they fell to the Northwest Prairie Pirates 5-2 but came back in this morning's game with a 9-8 win over the Black Gold Giants.

Coach Shane Moffatt says they had a slow start in Friday's game but they found their groove and the kids are playing well. They play their second game of the day at 3:00 this afternoon, pacific time, against the Prince George Knights. Moffatt explains they need to win this game, as well as tomorrow morning's game against the Kamloops River Dogs, to land their spot in the final.

Moffatt notes the kids are confident and they know what it takes to win, having won last year's Western Canadian Championship in St. Albert.
