The Portage Friendship Centre has partnered with Michelle Vey-Compton to hold a warm clothing drive.

Shelly Swidniki spoke on behalf of Vey-Compton and explains she wanted to do this to help the growing homeless population in Portage la Prairie. Swidniki notes, Vey-Compton is a compassionate person through and through.

Rose Gray is worker assistant with the center and the Eagles Fire Youth Centre and explains they will be continuing to accept donations this coming week. Gray adds they are accepting donations of gently used clean outerwear for adults and children of all ages.

The clothing that is collected will be distributed throughout the community, and the remainder that is not distributed in Portage will go to the Silome Mission in Winnipeg.

"It's overwhelming," says Gray. "I think it's fantastic how generous everyone has been."
