The Portage Legion will be opening its doors for the first time today since closing due to the COVID pandemic.

Bob Oldford, president of the Legion, says although they've been helping veterans throughout the pandemic, they had to physically close down due to COVID. He goes into detail on what the reopening will look like.

"We're opening up for the rest of the summer on Thursdays and Fridays from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.," says Oldford. "If we're busy, we may extend a little bit past 8 p.m., but normally we're pretty quiet, unless something else is going on."

He adds they'll review their hours once the new public health orders are announced. He also says they will be asking to see your COVID vaccination card and ID upon entry, and explains what it's been like to structure their reopening.

"We've always wanted to have our doors open, but there are certain health regulations that restricted us," notes Oldford. "As you know, we're dealing with veterans and those that have health issues, so we did not want to open up early and put them at risk."

He adds they will enforce wearing masks as you make your way through the facility, but when you make it to your seat, you can remove it. To learn more about the Portage Legion, visit their Facebook page here.
