On November 26, at about 9:15 p.m., Portage la Prairie RCMP received a report of a man in possession of a firearm outside a business in Dakota Tipi First Nation. When officers arrived, it was learned that a male had pointed a sawed-off rifle at another individual and then left the scene. Nobody was physically injured during the incident.

Jolt, police dogA short time later, the investigation led officers to a nearby residence, where the suspect was identified and arrested. Jesse St. Paul, 29, from Portage la Prairie, was taken into custody without incident, but did not have the firearm on his person.

RCMP Police Dog Services was enlisted to assist in the search for the weapon, and Police Service Dog, Jolt, located the sawed-off rifle hidden on an adjacent property.

St. Paul is charged with Point Firearm, Possess Prohibited Weapon, Possess Weapon Dangerous to the Public, and Carry Concealed Weapon. Further charges are expected. He is remanded in custody.
