Island Park is one of the crown jewels of Portage la Prairie, but what is it about the area that captures the hearts of its visitors?

Love Parks Week runs from July 28th to August 6th. The week is designed for citizens across Canada to enjoy the green spaces that are available to them. PortageOnline took to the trails of Island Park to see why those who were out and about enjoy the area so much.

Beverly Twiss loves getting out and about during the summer months, with Island Park being her destination of choice.

"Walking around all the trails is very nice," notes Twiss. "I usually try to come early in the morning before it comes too hot."

Patricia Crozier calls the Island a place of peace, as she loves to sit on one of the benches and enjoy the breeze.

"I love that they have not made this a place where there's motorboats" notes Crozier. "It's so peaceful. And, all the creatures, all the different wildlife, I just think it's a beautiful park to come to and enjoy."

She also loves that numerous events are held at the park throughout the year, leading to free entertainment for everyone to experience.

Crozier was joined by her friend from Carman, Deb Anderson, who says she's visited the park a few times, but it's never been more beautiful than when she last visited on August 2nd.

"I hadn't been here for a while, and I was so impressed with the love and care they've put into it and the changes they've made in the last while," says Anderson. "It's a whole new place where I would want to come often just to sit."

Anderson is hoping that Island Park continues its current trend to become even more beautiful than it is today.
