Portage la Prairie's Logan Rands has loved his first season with the MJHL's Virden Oil Capitals.

The 5'11" defenceman was named the team's top defensive player and also shared top rookie honours with Tanner Andrew.

Rands says he had a lot of help on the blue line this season.

"I feel like I had a really good season. I was paired up with 20-year-old defenceman Tristan Cross for most of the season," says Rands. "I think he helped me along the way, get comfortable, get settled in. I just played my game throughout the season and I thought it went well."

Rands says this season was a grind, but he loved the challenge.

"It was pretty good. A lot more games than you're used to playing in Midget, playing another twenty games. So you get used to it," says Rands. "There's a lot of good talent in the league and it's pretty cool to play against those guys."

Rands suffered a concussion in the first game of the team's first round series with the Selkirk Steelers. The series is currently tied at two games a piece. Game five goes tonight.
