The Portage Regional Recreation Authority (PRRA) says the wait will soon be over to get out on the grounds at Republic Park.

Angie Shindle, General Manager with the PRRA, says there's not much left to do for the park to be ready.

"Now that the sun is out, I know everyone is anticipating getting out there and enjoying the fields. We're looking at April 29, as long as weather co-operates and we continue to have some sunshine to continue to dry up the fields, get the frost out of the ground. That's our biggest thing right now."

Shindle also added that this year, the community was very receptive to the winter walking path.

"We had a great winter with the winter walking path being made. We've had a great response of people using the fields respectfully in the winter, and they wintered really well."

She noted that the PRRA is grateful to the community for helping them get the fields ready by avoiding damaging the fields in any way.

"We just really appreciate that the community respects that the fields are closed right now and that going on them early does hamper with getting them ready for the season. Just keep looking at our website. We post when they're open, and we're really excited to welcome back all the users."
