Portage la Prairie City council has granted Rest-A-Bit shelter another conditional use permit.

Miriam Turyamwijuka, Chair of the Board of Directors for Rest-A-Bit, talks about when they're opening up.

"We plan to open Wednesday night," says Turyamwijuka. "We already have staff prepared, and Wednesday evening at 8 p.m., we will open our doors."

They will be at the Prairie Vineyard Christian Fellowship Church again. The big difference is they will now be operating for six days a week instead of five.

"We're excited, especially after this past weekend, I feel like it's a little more urgent," says Turyamwijuka. "We're just excited and happy to have the support of the council."

She says that they've learned a lot from the summer test pilot.

"There's no pattern to who stayed and the kind of situations that came through," adds Turyamwijuka. "I think over the winter, it's still going to be a learning process because we're looking for patterns. I think right now we're probably going to be continuing as is."
