A suspect was apprehended after two early morning robberies in Portage la Prairie today.

RCMP received a report shortly after midnight that a robbery took place at the MLCC located in the 2400 block of Saskatchewan Avenue.

A witness reports a female entered the business with a scarf masking her face. After having walked to the counter, she produced a knife and stole alcohol. She reportedly left the store in a grey four-door vehicle.
While on their way to the scene minutes later, officers were advised a second robbery occurred at coffee shop close by. The description provided by the caller matched the one provided in the first incident, including the sighting of a knife.

Officers proceeded to the second location and were able to locate the female suspect outside the business immediately, holding an undisclosed amount of money. She was arrested on the spot without incident. No one was injured during robberies.
A 36 year-old female from Long Plain First Nation remains in custody and is facing robbery charges.

The investigation is continuing.
