The PCI Saints JV 'A' girls volleyball team took to the court tonight in West Winnipeg Athletic Conference play. The girls had a slow start but managed to defeat the Stonewall Rams in straight sets. (23-25, 10-25, 14-25) Other than the first set which was a come from behind win, the Saints looked to be on cruise control for the final two sets.

Saints player Tunika Appah says it took most of the first set for her team to get in the game.

"It felt a little scary the first set," notes Appah. "We weren't doing very well, we actually hadn't had the lead the entire set. We finally got it and picked up our game."

She adds one of the areas that needs addressing is the team's play on serve receptions.

"We're good on our serving, we're going to work on passing next week," says Appah. "We struggle a bit with serve receive on certain serves. When a serve is coming hard, we need to learn how to read it faster, how to gauge where we need to put the ball better."

The Saints now have a 4-1 record in league play and are sitting seventh in the quad-A junior varsity provincial power rankings. Their next action will be on October 11th, when they welcome the Westwood Warriors to town. That game will get started at 5:00 pm.
