The rendition of Jungle Book Kids at École Arthur Meighen School (EAMS) was a roaring success earlier this month.

Ed Goertzen is the music teacher at EAMS, and he explains the production was put together by the grades five to eight drama club. He adds, since Christmas time the students have been preparing for the show. Goertzen stresses, it wasn't only the acting, but the set creation, and costume making.

"We're really proud of all the work that they did," says Goertzen. "We've had a lot of successful plays over the years. It's always really rewarding and makes you want to do it again."

Sarah Harley is a grade eight student and played the role of Shere Khan. For her, this role was challenging as she had to portray a mean rugged character.

Harley extended a huge thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Goertzen, teachers who worked around her busy sports involvement so she could partake in the production.

Harley will move onto grade nine next year and encourages everyone at the school to give drama a try.

"Don't be afraid to put your best self out there," says Harley. "Get right into the character, and it will feel so rewarding when you're done."

Rhea Goertzen is also in grade eight, and she played Baloo. She shares, a lot of time and effort went into the play, all of which was worth it in the end.

She too encourages everyone to give drama a try.

"It's a really good opportunity to come out and put yourself out there," says Rhea. "It helps with your confidence a lot and helps with when you are talking to other people."

Before the show, all of the students rehearsed three times a week!
