Emergency crews responded to a number of collisions on Manitoba highways in stormy weather Sunday evening.

That included a serious collision just west of Portage la Prairie along the Trans-Canada Highway at the intersection of Highway 16.

Westbound traffic for Highway 1 was closed completely at the intersection for two hours.

There is still no word at this time of the cause or how many vehicles are involved. There is also no word on injuries.

A Colorado low impacted southern Manitoba throughout the afternoon and evening. Motorists are reporting deteriorating conditions on several highways as high winds combine with snow and quickly falling temperatures. Motorists should drive with caution and according to the conditions around them.

The firefighters union for Portage la Prairie posted to social media, reminding the public to use caution when driving in the storm.

"Please remember to drive to conditions. Highway travel is not good right now, as we have a couple of collisions on seperate (sic) areas of #1 HWY," the post from Portage la Prairie Professional Firefighters Local 1079 says.
