There are sure to be a lot of smiles in Portage this week as Smile Cookies are consumed at Portage's Tim Hortons.

Smile Cookie Week is again upon us, and this year's recipient of the funds collected by Tim Hortons is ROK (Recreation Opportunities for Kids) Central Inc.

Stephanie Arnott, general manager for both Tim Horton's in town, talks about how great it is to benefit the community in this way.

"Smile Cookies are a dollar each, and that full dollar goes directly to ROK, and they do wonderful things with opportunities for kids and planning and programs that reach all sorts of people from Portage la Prairie. So, it's a really important organization, and we're happy to help them," says Arnott. "Yeah, it's a really fun way to give back, and everybody is really excited to, you know, decorate cookies and see who has the best smile."

The Tim Hortons General Manager notes that as of noon on Wednesday, Portage has sold 2300 smile cookies.

"We do have quite a few more cookies to sell. So, if you're interested, it's important though to call the store if you have a large order."

Executive director of ROK, Vienna Muise, says this funding will go a long way.

"So, anytime you go in, and you buy a $1.00 smile cookie, that money goes to help some child in the community, whether it's by skates, hockey equipment, register for dance, you name it. The funds will go towards children in recreation, so we're really excited."

Muise shares that she has been challenging businesses to buy as many cookies as possible.

"Just by enjoying your coffee and having a cookie, you are helping kids in the community," says Muise.

According to Arnott, Smile Cookie Week will end when the two Tim Hortons locations run out of cookies or this Sunday, September 25th.

To pre-order smile cookies, the downtown location can be reached at 204-857-5222 or the western location at 204-239-1215.
