At the Meyers, Norris, Penny Prairie Classic yesterday, eight teams posted 2-and-0 records on opening day, including Portage's Don Spriggs. He'll play at 11:30 this morning, versus Jeff Stoughton, who's also 2-and-0.
Olympic gold medalist Brad Gushue sits at 1-and-1, as does Winnipeg's Vic Peters.
Ryan Hyde of Portage is at 0-and-2. He faces Mark Lukowich at 11:30 this morning.

Zone 4 high school hockey saw PCI Trojans defeat Morris 5-0. Kyle Hamilton had a pair for the Trojans.
Other action -- Pembina downed Miller 4-2. Mountain got by Morden 5-2.

In the MJHL, Selkirk stopped OCN 6-2. Dauphin edged Beausejour 6-5. Winnipeg South bombed Neepawa 10-0.

The Triple "A" Midget League saw Winnipeg Wild double Pembina Valley 4-2. Winnipeg Thrashers were 8-1 winners over Eastman. Parkland shaded Southwest 3-2.

In Southeastern Manitoba League exhibition play, Plum Coulee beat Notre Dame 5-3.

Brandon Wheat Kings lost in the WHL. It was 5-2 for Everett.

Manitoba Moose won in the AHL, 3-2 over Rockford.

NHL action -- Montreal dropped Carolina 7-4. Vancouver nipped Washington 3-2. Buffalo downed Florida 4-2. Detroit dumped San Jose 5-1. Colorado stopped Calgary 3-2 in overtime.

In the CFL, BC Lions locked up first place in the west, with a 27-19 victory over Hamilton. Meanwhile, Edmonton's playoff hopes were dashed. They lost 36-29 in overtime to Saskatchewan.

And, the World Series moves to Denver tonight for Game 3. Boston holds a 2-0 series lead over Colorado.
