A 25-year-old from Long Plain First Nation has been charged with Aggravated Assault following a stabbing incident.

Authorities say that at 6:06 a.m. on May 2, Portage la Prairie RCMP received a call of a stabbing on Spruce Bay in Portage la Prairie. Officers attended and located a 37-year-old man from Portage with injuries consistent with being cut with an edged weapon.

A description of the suspect was provided to police, and they were able to locate a 25-year-old man from Long Plain First Nation a short distance away.

The suspect was not compliant with the officer, and a taser was deployed. He was placed under arrest and was reportedly not injured.

The victim was taken to hospital and released later that day. 

Dawson Assiniboine is charged with Aggravated Assault and Resisting Arrest. He was held in custody and appeared in court on May 3.
