The Portage Terriers are aiming to take back the series lead tonight against the Winnipeg Freeze.

These two teams split their first set of games this past weekend, with each squad picking up the victory on home ice. Team captain Logan Calder describes what they need to do in the next two outings to win their first four-game series of the season.

“I think we just have to come out and play hard like we have been,” says Calder. “It all starts in the first period when the puck drops. We’ve gotten behind at times but we just have to battle back hard and give 100 percent for a full 60 minutes.”

Calder has been the biggest provider of offence for the Terrier this season and currently has the longest active point streak in the MJHL. The local forward had his name on the stat sheet in nine consecutive contests and has put up 14 points in the Terriers’ last 12 games.

The Dogs are placed fifth in the East Division standings heading into tonight’s game and are nine points back of the final playoff spot in the conference. The Freeze, on the other hand, is the only team behind Portage as they are two points back. Calder talks about how often that crosses their mind at this point in the season.

“It’s something we look at. We don’t want to be one of those teams dwells on the bottom all year,” Calder explains. “We want to start making our way up now and build off some of the momentum we built in the last few games.”

The Terriers will welcome the Freeze to Stride Place tonight at 7:30.
