The Portage Terriers picked up their first win of the season Sunday, dowing the Virden Oil Capitals 2-1 win in overtime.

Trevor Hunt opened the scoring for Virden nine minutes into the first period, giving the Oils Caps a 1-0 lead that they would maintain into the second, before Peyton Gorski found the back of the net, tying the score 1-1.

The game went into overtime following a scoreless third period. Tyson McLean scored for the Terriers within the first two minutes, giving the Dogs their first win of the season. Gorski picked up an assist on the goal and shares what he was thinking during the play.

"With three on three you want to control the puck and you want to keep possession," says Gorski. "I tried to keep possession throughout that play and T-Mac (McLean) put a great shot on net and we ended up winning."

Heading into game three of the opening season series, Gorski says it'll be important for the team to move the puck and use each other.

"There are a lot of new guys coming to play with each other and it's going to be a process, and we understand that," says Gorski. "All that we can control is ourselves, so if we just move the puck and use each other, all that special teams, all that extra stuff is going to come."

Chris Fines was the starting goaltender for Portage, playing his first official game as a Terrier.

"It feels pretty good, pretty special [to get the win]," says Fines, "the boys played their hearts out for me tonight, so it feels good."

Fines blocked 53 out of 54 shots on goal, but gives a lot of the credit to his team.

"Most of the shots, the boys kept them to the outside for the most part so it made things easy in that way," notes Fines.

Meanwhile, Kyle Kozma returned to net for Virden, stopping 44 of 46 shots.

Game three of the four game series is set for Friday when the Terriers will welcome the Oil Caps on home ice at Stride Place. Puck-drop is set for 7:30.
