The price of tractor and semi truck tires in Manitoba may be heading higher.

Manitoba Conservation has asked the tire industry to come up with a new plan to manage the tire recycling program in our province.

Policy Analyst Rod McCormick says one proposed change will help the program continue to fund itself. That's where a $2.80 levy is imposed on new tire purchases -- the industry's proposed a higher levy for bigger tires.

Semi truck tires and larger tractor tires would be included in this new program.

Manitoba Conservation ended a round of public consultation sessions last week.
McCormick expects a final approval for this new program could be in place by October.
