The Conservative defence critic's pledging his party will continue efforts to change the plans of the Trudeau government to purchase older Australian fighter jets for the RCAF.

Selkirk-Interlake-Eastman MP James Bezan calls it an ill-informed promise made in 2015.

"It is unfortunate the government is still ploughing ahead on an asinine plan of buying obsolete, worn out Australian fighter jets that were actually destined for the scrap heap," says Bezan. "It's a waste of money. That money should be spent on recruiting, training, and retaining pilots and technicians in the Air Force, where over 40 pilots have left in the last two years."

Bezan stresses the Tories will continue efforts to stop the purchase.

"To start actually focusing in on the purchase of a new fighter jet," he says. "And recruiting and retaining the pilots and technicians that we need to keep our Air Force in the air. And we really do have to get a plane that is what is wanted, and needed, so that we can meet our obligations to NORAD, NATO, and to other allies that we fight within coalitions."
