A Winnipeg man was handed charges and fines following a traffic stop last week in Portage.

On Aug. 23, just before midnight, Portage la Prairie RCMP received a call of a possible impaired driver near Royal Road North.

A patrolling officer located the vehicle on Saskatchewan Avenue East and was able to initiate a traffic stop. According to police, the driver was asked to provide a breath sample on a roadside screening device in which the 41-year-old male from Winnipeg failed. The driver was taken to the RCMP Detachment where his breath samples were analysed and proved to be over the legal limit.

The driver was charged with impaired operation of a conveyance and operating a conveyance while over 80mg%. He was also issued three tickets under the Highway Traffic Act and the Liquor, Gaming and Cannabis Act totalling $1,146.
