Families gather for Crescentview Welcome Back Barbecue
Crescentview School in Portage la Prairie brought its community together Thursday with a Welcome Back Barbecue, offering students, staff, and families a chance to celebrate the start of the new school year. The event, hosted by the Home and School Association, ran alongside the Terry Fox Walk. Principal Doyle Moar notes it is both a way to mark the return to class and to create space for families to connect with the school. “We did this last year,” notes Moar. “It was our first year doing it in a while since COVID. So it was really well attended and it's just to invite our community members to our school and we're feeding all our kids today and it's a nice day to do it on our Terry Fox walk as well because our kids will be coming back and getting their food." With the school year now in full swing, Moar says routines are now starting to form, with programs and extracurriculars rolling out. “I think it takes a little bit of time to get into a rhythm here at school, but I think we're there now,” says Moar. “We've settled in. We're starting a lot of different things in the school. Our clubs and our extracurricular sports are going and starting to offer things for our kids on a daily basis. It's been good so far.” Sign up to get the latest local news headlines delivered directly to your inbox every afternoon.
