Surprise donation helps Langruth Hall floor repair
The community of Langruth is receiving a generous boost for its recreation hall, thanks to a surprise visit and donation that has locals excited. During the fall supper last Sunday, a guest brought good news for the Langruth Recreation Committee and the wider area. The cheque presentation from Stride Credit Union and the presence of local dignitaries brought recognition to the significance of the project. The hall’s worn flooring has been a concern for some time, and the timing of the donation helps push the repair plans forward. “The Langruth Hall Committee is trying to, has been raising money and trying to get enough funds together to repair the flooring in the Langruth Hall,” says Tom Teichroeb chair of the recreation committee. “And it’s been something that we’ve wanted to do for some time now.” With the local fundraising efforts and the generous gift from Stride, the project is now well on track to reach its goal. “I just want to express my sincere thank you to Brent Budz and the Stride Credit Union for making that donation of $20,000 so we can finish this project inside the next year,” adds Teichroeb Related stories: Stride Credit Union boosts community-impact projects with new Stride Forward Fund Langruth Harvest Festival celebrates 10 years with big turnout Local impact and future stages The arrival of the cheque at the fall supper wasn’t just about numbers—it symbolises the strength of partnerships between community groups and financial co-operatives. The committee acknowledges that without the support they would’ve struggled to meet the target in time. “This community, they drove out here to do that. And not only that, but they’re good support for others,” he adds, describing the visiting team from Stride. The participation of Sharilyn Knox, mayor of Portage la Prairie, added additional momentum to the event. Her presence alongside the cheque presentation reinforced the message of partnership between municipal government, local organisations, and business. “Again, I just want to express my sincere thank you … and say thank you,” continues Teichroeb. With the funds secured, the committee now aims to schedule the hall flooring replacement and complete the task within the coming year. The community is hopeful the revitalised space will serve as a renewed gathering place for generations to come.
