Portage athlete Joey Moffatt has been named Baseball Manitoba's U-18 Player of the Year.

Moffatt played with four different teams(Portage AA, Pembina Hills AAA, PCI Trojans and Portage Padres) this year achieving success at every level from high school to senior men's. Moffatt talks about how it feels to get an award like this.

"It's an honour," says Moffatt. "We've had team success all the way through. To get recognized for my individual play is a huge honour. I can't thank everybody on the team enough, along with the coaches here in Portage it's just been unbelievable."

Many people know Moffatt as the Portage Terriers' current leading scorer, and while hockey is his main focus, baseball has always been a passion of his. Moffatt describes what being a multi-sport athlete has done for him.

"Playing baseball and hockey you meet a bunch of new people," says Moffatt. "I think multi-sport athletes have a bit of an advantage because you're not using the same muscle groups you use for ball as you do for hockey or for hockey as you do for ball. I think it's a big advantage not only for the athletic ability but for building new relationships."

Moffatt says he has always had a good group of guys around him playing baseball in Portage and adds that's a large part of why he won this award.

Moffatt will be accepting this award on November 2nd in Brandon at Baseball Manitoba's Award Ceremony.
