The PCI Trojans are off to the semifinal at the Manitoba Provincial High School Baseball Championships in Altona. They walked away winners of a 10-5 decision with Garden City Friday afternoon and will now play at 10 a.m. Saturday morning.

"It was a good match," says head coach Jay Dewis. "We showed some good composure because it was a tight game through four innings, and then they went ahead in the top of the fifth and we answered back with a big inning in the bottom of it. Really happy to be moving on."

The heat didn't seem to phase either team on the field with their seasons on the line. A huge fifth inning sealed the win for PCI as they found themselves down after giving up three runs at the top of the inning to trail the Gophers 5-4. Joey Moffat was dynamite at the plate for the Trojans, going two for three with four RBIs, Matthew Boychuk and Brody Moffat each had a couple of RBIs as well. Tyler Van Deynze pitched five innings, giving up five earned runs on nine hits with four strikeouts. Joey Moffat came in to relieve Van Deynze and gave up one hit with four strikeouts.

"I thought we played better defensively today," says Dewis. "We also played almost error-free ball and came through with some big hits. Sturgeon Heights will have a few high-end guys and we'll have to play well to win."

The Trojans and Sturgeon Heights take the field at 10 a.m. Saturday morning in the semifinal.
