The annual Big Duck Race in support of Big Brothers Big Sisters prooved to be another successful fundraiser.

BBBS Portage la Prairie execeutive director Dawn Froese reports the event held on Canada Day that saw rubber ducks fill the lazy river at Splash Island in Portage raised $6,549 to support mentoring programs in the community.

"To continue to support children with mentors and giving them opportunties to grow into strong, responsible adults, really is a community (effort)," Froese says. "We all have a part to play and by supporting BBBS that enables us to continue to do that one-on-one, hopefully long-term commitments to children. And we're seeing results."

Froese notes the fundraising totals were just slightly down compared to 2016, when the event raised just over $7,000.
