Portage Family Abuse Prevention Centre Executive Director Joyce Schrader and RMT Tracy Enns with a $1502.00 cheque

The people of Portage responded in a big way to a fundraising event for the Portage Family Abuse Prevention Centre yesterday.

RMT Tracy Enns' Massage For Hope raised $1502.00, in exchange for 35 15-minute sessions.

Enns is awe-struck at the support for her idea, and hasn't come down from Cloud 9 yet. She's amazed by the community's generosity, and is honoured to be able to help the shelter. She adds it shows it only takes one idea and one person to make a difference.

Enns says the people who participated told her it's prompted them to get involved and take action as well. She's happy her idea has raised awareness about what the shelter's doing in the community, and she plans to do it again.

Abuse Prevention Centre Executive Director Joyce Schrader admits this kind of grassroots support is overwhelming, adding it makes her work at the shelter easier.
