The RM of Woodlands council has given second and third reading to a by-law regarding the 911 numbering system signs. Deputy Reeve Ila Buchanan says recently there was an incident at Twin Lakes beach where an ambulance was dispatched but they had some difficulty finding the right address. Buchanan notes what they discovered is that the 911 numbering system doesn't continue out of St. Laurent in sequence into the RM of Woodlands. She says fortunately in this instance neighbours were able to direct the ambulance to the correct house in time, but adds it's certainly a concern and they would never want to have this kind of problem come up again.

Buchanan notes council is looking at changing everything over to civic addressing so the numbers carry on right down the line. She adds emergency vehicles are all getting GPS computers and the municipality has to keep up with the times. Buchanan says every subdivision or development contains the same numbers but civic addressing is totally different, so this has to be done as soon as possible.
