A new four unit 55+ residence will be coming to the community of Oakville.

Randy Murray is the property owner and he shares the details.

"[It's a] four unit main floor bungalow-style residence and we're going to make it handicap accessible. So wider hallways, no thresholds, you won't have to worry about the standard bathtubs; it will be low threshold bathtubs. That sort of thing."

He shares why he decided to build the residence.

"It's what I do. I do have property in the town, the town is fantastic, I really like the area. I think there's a demand there and that is what I like to do."

The variation request for the residence was passed during the last RM of Portage council meeting. Reeve Kam Blight notes they knew Murray was planning on building something like this for a few years now, and they're excited to see it's going to happen.

"That excited us because we knew it would be a good fit in our community and it's nice to see that it's finally going to start to happen here. So we're very excited and supportive of it. We did make a slight alteration to his variation request, which he's fully supportive of. We're very excited to see where it goes from here."

Construction will begin later this summer and the completion date is set for next spring.
