RCMP, Portage Fire Department and EMS responded to a one-vehicle incident on the TransCanada Highway, west of Portage la Prairie, near Highway 16 Friday night.

A fire department official says a semi heading westbound on Highway 1 pulling two trailers, had its back trailer detach and overturn, spilling the contents into Rat Creek -- about one mile west of Highway 16. Officials say none of the contents of the trailer posed any environmental risk to the creek, as it was filled mainly with household items.

The contents of a tractor trailer that rolled over on Highway 1 near Highway 16, west of Portage la Prairie, on Feb. 24 around 11 p.m. spilled everywhere. A power line was also downed. (submitted photo)

The accident also caused a hydro line to fall down over the TransCanada Highway, forcing the closure of the route in both directions for more than two hours, and knocking out power in the area. Manitoba Hydro was called to the scene to attend to the fallen line. Highway 1 re-opened just after 2 a.m. Saturday morning.

The driver of the tractor trailer couldn't be immediately located. He was eventually found with his vehicle about three miles from the site of the incident. EMS transported him to hospital for unknown reasons.
