The BDO Centre for the Community is getting some major renovations done this summer.

Portage Community Centre President Shane Moffat says they've been dealing with some leaks in the roof for a little while now and they're glad to finally get them filled and patched up.

"We've got a brand new spray on foam to seal all the little leaks that were created over the lobby area and our workout area. Over the ice surface, we had two or three leaks that were pretty bad, and we knew we had to repair them right away. The repairs will last for years and years, and we shouldn't have any more issues afterwards."

Moffat says it was close to $300,000 to get the job done, and thankfully they received a lot of support from the city.

"The entire place is going to look a lot different, and better when people start coming in the fall," says Moffat. "We took some glass out in the lobby. The female and male Capitals teams will have new frames and plaques. The lobby will all be painted blue now so it'll look quite different when you come in. In the kitchen, we removed the sink, and all the countertops will be stainless steel now."

He adds there's still going to be some work they'll need to complete next year but everything looks really good right now.
