The 150th anniversary of the RCMP is this year, and one of only two shows of the Musical Ride in Manitoba took place this past weekend at Assiniboia Downs in Winnipeg.

Assistant Commissioner and Commanding Officer of Manitoba RCMP Rob Hill says it was fitting seeing as the ride originated Manitoba.

"I'm proud and honoured to have a chance to participate in this great event," says Hill. "I talked to one of the organizers who said the inner and outer stands were full. Close to 10,000 from where I was looking, the stands were full."

He notes it's great to see Manitobans come out and support the RCMP. Hill outlines what's taking place for their 150th.

"There's been many special events and unofficial events, barbecues, informal events. We've had a ball in Virdin. We've had a ball in Wasagaming Clear Lake and we have the large 150th ball in September 15th at Fort Gary Hotel."

Hill adds the event makes everyone realize how iconic the Musical Ride is. He notes that although he wasn't part of the ride, he's had his picture taken 200 times on Saturday.

"It just makes me proud to be part of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police."
