The 2017 Canada Summer Games are just around the corner from hitting Winnipeg.

Portage la Prairie baseball player Tanner Boyle's ready to suit up for Team Manitoba. He's having a stellar season with two Provincial Championships under his belt in the 2017 season. The first came with the Portage Collegiate Trojans at the Manitoba High School Athletic Association Provincial Championships. Boyle hit a grand slam and a two-run home run en route to their 17-3 win over the Boissevain Broncos. He won his second with the Portage Pirates AA Midget Club a couple of weeks ago at the Baseball Manitoba Provincial Championships.

"I went through the Portage Minor system all the way through my life," says Boyle. "I've always had a good team in my age group. We've won six provincial titles I think now."

Portager Ryan Borody will help lead Team Manitoba from the dugout after being named the Assistant Coach. He's honoured to be heading to the Games, especially with it being so close to home.

"It's going to be a very big deal, especially because it's in our home province," says Borody. "It's been a two and half year process where we've been putting together the final roster. We finished that in May, and we've had some competition with our team in the last month."

Borody says the team has been training quite a bit this summer, with practices scattered throughout the players' regular season games - and practices - with their club teams. Team Manitoba recently returned from Minneapolis, where they took part in the Gopher Classic. They've got a pre-tournament match Wednesday, July 26th against Saskatchewan.

"I'm just going to try and play good defence and try to help out with the offence when I can," adds Boyle. "We did pretty well in the tournaments, and we practice (Wednesday) morning in Brandon. We'll be playing Saskatchewan in pre-tournament action in the evening and I'm looking forward to that."

Borody adds, "We're looking for big things from the boys. We're very happy with our roster and we have a lot of guys who are role players. We hope to use all 20 guys to the best of their abilities and see what happens."

Wednesday's exhibition match against Saskatchewan going at 7 p.m. in Hamiota. Find Team Manitoba's full schedule below.
