Eight teams have 2 and 0 records and are one win away from advancing to the Playoff Round at the 2020 Viterra Provincial Men’s Curling Championship at the Eric Coy Arena in Winnipeg.

Those unblemished records belong to the top six seeds and they are defending champion Mike McEwen, Jason Gunnlaugson, Tanner Horgan, Braden Calvert, William Lyburn and Corey Chambers.

2013 finalist Sean Grassie is 2 and 0.

Viterra rookies Ryan Wiebe, Carter Watkins, Adam Flatt and Sean Flatt are also perfect heading into todays "A" side qualifiers.

"It’s really exciting for us," said Wiebe shortly after their 9-5 victory over J.T. Ryan of Assiniboine Memorial. "We had a little bit of a rough go at the Junior Provincial but we were psyched to come for the Men’s Provincial. We’re going to give it our best go. I’m really proud of the boys. We’re playing really smooth so far."

The St. Vital foursome, who earned their spot at the 2020 Viterra Championship by winning the Manitoba Curling Tour Championship at the Heather Curling Club back in December, defeated Steen Sigurdson of Gimli 7-4 on day one

"We've settled into the ice and once we get our groove and start playing at the highest level that I know we can play, I think we’re right with the top teams," said Wiebe. "We’re excited to see what the rest of the week has in store for us."

Wiebe and the Flatt twins are 19-years-old while Watkins, who joined the squad this season, is the veteran of the team at 21.

Tom Clasper has seen the team grow and it started with the hard work put in by Ryan, Sean & Adam.

"We’ve been kind of working as a group for the last two, three years and working really hard at team practices," said the team's legendary coach. "This year Carter came in with all kinds of experience. It was more the bonspieling and the Tour events that they played, both the junior and the men’s tours, where they started realizing the work was bringing them along. They had the confidence that they could play at this level."

"Wednesday we had a real struggle with the ice and everything and today they came out and played a pretty solid game," added Clasper. "I think it’s a combination of the hard work they’ve done and the experience they gained over the last few years."
