Spirits were high at Stride Place tonight following a win from the Portage Collegiate Trojans High School Hockey team as they shook off their 7 game losing streak, beating the Carman Cougars in over-time with a final score of 4-3. Brendan Schaan is the head coach and says the win's been a long time coming.

"I knew we had it in us to play that kind of hockey," says Schaan. "It's a shame it went into overtime like it did, as we were up 3-1 going into the third. But a wins a win and we really needed one for the confidence here. I hope the boys get to carry through with this and enjoy themselves on the weekend, and hopefully come back and play some more good hockey and we'll keep going for next week,

Things started out strong for the Trojans as they ended the second period 3-1. There were goals from Steven Vey, Cole Butler, and Rylan Crawford in the first two periods, then the third was scoreless for the Trojans, but Carman managed to sneak two in, resulting in overtime. Schaan explains what he feels led up to that:

"I feel like there was definitely a lapse in the earliest part of the third that kind of opened the door for them to get back into the game and they took advantage of it," says Schaan. "But we bounced back and were able to get one early in overtime."

The game-winning goal came from Matt Boychuk, and the winning goalie was Grayson Pashe.

The Trojans have the weekend off, and Schaan feels it's well deserved.

"I hope the boys take that momentum into next week, and we'll just keep playing this kind of hockey from here on out."
