It was a difficult loss for the Portage Collegiate Trojans this evening in theZone 4 High School Hockey League. They fell 4-3, with 2 goals coming from the opposing GVC Zodiacs in the final 5 minutes of the game. Brendan Schaan is the head coach of the Trojans and says they need to focus on their defensive zone first.

"We were solid for the first 40 minutes, it really came down to the last 20 minutes," says Schaan. "We did the stats for the third and we actually got outshot something like 17-4. The biggest thing for us is focusing on our defensive zone first."

Schaan notes very often they were scrambling, looking for hard passes out of the zone, rather than the simple chip into the neutral zone, and as a result they weren't able to put the pressure on the opposition like he wanted. He adds getting scored on in the last minute and thirty seconds was tough. However, he feels the momentum was there leading up to the third.

"Our second period, in particular, was actually outstanding." explains Schaan. "We were getting pucks deep, we were putting pressure on them. We got a couple scoring chances out of it. I think we got a little complacent there in the third and ultimately that bit us in the back. We just have to come out, practice hard this upcoming week and in a weeks time get ready for Altona."

The Trojans saw one goal from Brandon Rouire in the second, and 2 coming from Steven Vey, who scored in the first and second periods. The next action for the Trojans is Thursday against WC Miller Aces.
