Portage la Prairie will soon be home to a new hotel. Arrowhead Development Corporation of Long Plain First Nation is slated to start construction of a new Wyndham microtel on the Keeshkeemaquah reserve.

Long Plain Chief Dennis Meeches says plans are moving along well.

"Our feasability study here for the hotel, was very positive," says Meeches. "We're working with a major hotel chain. If everything moves along as it should, we're slated for construction this spring/summer."

Meeches says this is just one project in the works for Long Plain to expand their economic prospects.

"Long Plain is going to be participating in the economic boom that's happening within this region," Meeches says. "We also have some other economic development projects in the que for Long Plain, for Portage and Winnipeg urban reserves. So for us we're really excited about what will happen with the transformation of this area and what we're doing in Winnipeg," says Meeches.

Meeches adds this hotel project has been an idea for many years, but they're now in the position to move ahead with development and become hoteliers.
