A 31-year-old man from Portage la Prairie was handed a long list of charges after police say it was discovered he had numerous stolen weapons in his possession.

According to police, on Oct. 25 at around 2 a.m., Portage la Prairie RCMP were responding to a call in the 700 block of 9th Street NW. While at the call, officers located several guns inside the residence, and police say the suspect involved did not have authorization to possess any firearms.

The suspect was arrested and became combative but officers were able to place the man in the back of the police vehicle and take him to the RCMP detachment to be lodged. When the officers ran the serial numbers for the seized firearms, it was learned that they had been stolen from several places in Manitoba and Saskatchewan.

The man faces charges of assault, three counts of assaulting a police officer, three counts of failing to comply with an undertaking, four counts of failing to comply with release order, three counts of possessing a firearm when knowing possession is unauthorized, three counts of possession of a weapon obtained by crime, three counts of possession of property obtained by crime, uttering threats, careless storage of a firearm and unauthorized possession of a firearm.

The suspect was remanded into custody and appear in court Oct. 26.
