The weather indicates spring is approaching and the peak of the flu season is just getting started. Dr. Jasdeep Atwal Medical Officer of Health for Prairie Mountain region says they are beginning to notice an increase in flu activity.

"We're seeing a slight increase in cases but at this point there are no hot spots in the Westman region.”

What's helping this year, is the good match in this year's flu shot with the circulating viruses.
“If you are sick, it's always best to stay home, to limit the spread of illness” said Dr. Atwal.

If you're sick and not getting better, especially if you have a chronic medical condition, you should see your family doctor, or health care provider.

Dr. Atwal stressed the importance of washing your hands, covering your cough, and practicing good self care if you get sick.
"And then as far as visiting people who are in personal care homes or hospitals, the frail elderly, just be very careful that you are not bringing in illness," added Atwal.

He wanted people to know they can still get the flu shot and he recommends it if they haven't already done so this winter.
