Big Brother Big Sisters Central Plains (BBBS) has announced their plans for the upcoming month, and they're in need of volunteers looking to make a difference.

Dawn Froese, executive director of BBBS, says they're looking for any volunteer mentors who'd like to spend time with children ages 6 to 15. She explains that depending on the program the mentor is volunteering for, that will decide when you're going to be spending time with the kids.

"In-school mentoring is one lunch hour a week, while after school mentoring is Wednesday's from 4 to 5 p.m.," notes Froese. "We're looking for some 'Go Girls' facilitator which is for an 8-week program that works with girls 12 to 14 years of age and each session is about an hour and a half."

She believes that when a mentor is able to walk alongside a developing mind, it can really change their perspective for the better. She adds they'll be holding information sessions every Wednesday to allow would-be mentors to come and ask questions before they commit to it.

"There is no commitment if you come in to talk to us. We're not going to make you be a mentor, but it is just an informal way to get more information," explains Froese. "If you'd like to know about something, you just come into the office and I'm going to be available to talk with you about the different programs that we run."
