Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Portage la Prairie have made some changes to its programming due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.

They’ve had to cancel a few of their programs. Executive Director Dawn Froese explains.

"We have put our in-school mentoring and our after school mentoring matches on hold. Our Fuse Program finished a week early, and Bowl for Kids has been cancelled."

Bowl for Kids was a key fundraiser for BBBS. They collected pledges, and each team would get the chance to participate in an evening of bowling.

The event was supposed to take place Friday, March 20th and Sunday, March 22nd. Here’s what they’ll be doing in place of the event.

"What we've asked people to do is any donations they have to bring them into the office in the next week and a half and then later on once COVID-19 has finished, we'll have an afternoon where we invite everyone for a fun bowl."

Their office will be closed, but in the meantime, here’s how they’ll be operating.

"Our community-based matches, those are our matches that meet in the evenings. We've given them a list of activities that they can do without actually getting together in person, just to encourage that communication continues. Our office is still open to emails and phones."
