As the days are getting longer and people are enjoying that, the number of blood donations is down in our region.

Steve Raizen is a Territory Manager with Donor Relations for the Canadian Blood Services and explains, during the summer months, donors in our are often busy. So now, it's essential to have new donors come out. He explains 1000 donations are necessary every week in Manitoba to meet the demand. Raizen stresses the donation process is straightforward and doesn't hurt.

"It's very easy to do," explains Raizen. "It only takes about an hour of your time. It's really the most direct way that you can give to somebody in the community."

Donation clinics often come to Portage. The next opportunity to donate blood is this Monday, May 27th, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Stride Place.

More will take place later in the summer! You can check out the Canadian Blood Services Website here to see dates and register to donate.
