The Portage Curling Club is very happy with the latest announcement from the province's Public Health Officials. After the latest health order, the curling club is now allowed to host bonspiels once again. Club manager Rae Trimble-Olson says the Portage Ladies' Bonspiel will be the first one of the year.

"It's on the fourth, fifth, and sixth of March. So, we're taking entries for anyone that is interested," says Trimble-Olson. "We had pencilled in our Last Chance Bonspiel for April 1-3 and that is a go. We have about 18 entries for that so far and we're around 20 for the ladies."

Trimble-Olson says from what she has seen many curling clubs in the area will be gearing up to host various bonspiels as they have been waiting to do so for quite some time. She says competitors are excited to get into the action.

"People that bonspiel usually have events that they like to go to every year. So, they're looking forward to being able to attend the bonspiel that they like to go to," Trimble-Olson explains. "Everybody seems to be looking forward to bonspieling this year."

The manager notes they are hoping to reschedule their Men's Bonspiel, which they had been hoping to put on last weekend. Trimble-Olson adds whether or not they host it will depend on the interest of potential participants.
